I took care of 20,000 hearts before learning how to care for my own.

Cardiologist. Physician Executive. Author. Speaker.

Exploring what it means to live, work, and lead in ways the heart can sustain.

I grew up in a family of physicians. My Dad was the town doctor, and all seven children became physicians like our father. From an early age, I learned the value of service, responsibility, and hard work.

Those lessons shaped me in many positive ways. They also left me believing that my worth was tied to what I accomplished.

Medicine rewarded that belief.

As a cardiologist, I spent years caring for patients with heart disease while quietly struggling with anxiety, burnout, and grief in my own life. The loss of my sister Andrea, one of the most important people in my life, forced me to confront questions I could no longer avoid.

What does it mean to live well?

What actually creates health?

Why do so many capable and successful people feel disconnected from themselves, from others, and from what matters most?

Those questions led me beyond traditional medicine into mindfulness, psychology, contemplative practice, leadership, and the science of human flourishing.

What I discovered changed my life.

The Story Behind the Work

What I Learned

I came to see that health is not merely physical.

Human beings have physical, emotional, social, and spiritual dimensions that are deeply interconnected. When these dimensions become fragmented, we suffer. When they become integrated, we experience greater vitality, resilience, connection, meaning, and well-being.

This understanding became the foundation for Just One Heart and for the work I now share through speaking, writing, retreats, leadership development, and coaching.

At the center of everything I do is a simple idea:

The heart and mind were never meant to function separately.

My Work Today

Today I work at the intersection of medicine, leadership, contemplative practice, and human flourishing.

As a cardiologist, physician executive, speaker, mindfulness teacher, and leadership coach, I help individuals and organizations cultivate healthier, more sustainable ways of living, working, and leading.

My award-winning book, Just One Heart, shares the ideas and practices that emerged from that journey.
