Why this matters

After caring for thousands of patients and working with leaders across healthcare and beyond, I’ve come to believe that many of our greatest challenges share a common root: disconnection.

Disconnection from our bodies.

Disconnection from our emotions.

Disconnection from one another.

Disconnection from meaning and purpose.

My work explores how reconnecting heart and mind can help people live, lead, and heal more fully.

The four-dimensional heart

Health and well-being extend beyond the physical body.

The Four-Dimensional Heart is a framework for understanding the interconnected physical, emotional, social, and spiritual dimensions of human flourishing.

Together, these dimensions shape how we respond to stress, build relationships, find meaning, and navigate the challenges of life and leadership.

Physical

Health, vitality, recovery, and energy.

Emotional

Awareness, resilience, compassion, and emotional agility.

Social

Relationships, belonging, trust, and connection.

Spiritual

Meaning, purpose, values, and contribution.

Most people naturally develop some dimensions more than others.

Health, leadership, and well-being emerge from the integration of all four.

Just One Heart

Just One Heart is the foundation beneath this work.

Recipient of the Independent Book Publishers Association (IBPA) Book Award and Independent Publisher (IPPY) Award.

Drawing on medicine, neuroscience, psychology, contemplative practice, and lived experience, the book explores how stress, disconnection, and fragmentation shape how we think, feel, relate, and lead.

At its core, Just One Heart offers a practical framework for cultivating greater steadiness, wisdom, connection, and wholeness by bringing the heart and mind back into conversation.

“A remarkable blend of personal narratives, ancient wisdom, and cutting-edge science. It challenges conventional medical wisdom and opens new horizons in understanding heart health.”

Dean Ornish, MD, NYT Best-Selling Author, Clinical Professor, UCSF

“Just what the doctor ordered for a divided world seeking a path to integrated health and wellness.”

Richard Carmona, MD, MPH, FACS, 17th U.S. Surgeon General

“A timely reminder that true health encompasses mind, body, and spirit. An important guide for leading a healthier and more connected life—lived with heart.”

About Jonathan

I took care of 20,000 hearts before learning how to care for my own.

For much of my life, achievement, productivity, and perfectionism became a way to protect myself from pain, vulnerability, grief, and the feeling of not being enough.

Medicine rewarded those strengths. So did the world around me.

Over time, I became highly developed in the habits of the mind while neglecting the capacities of the heart.

My experiences with anxiety, burnout, loss, mindfulness practice, and caring for thousands of patients led me to a different understanding of health and leadership.

Today my work focuses on helping people reconnect heart and mind so they can live, lead, and heal more fully.

“We’ve worked with Dr. Fisher across several events, including the EXPLORE Healthcare Summit, and his sessions consistently stand out. Whether he’s guiding mindful practice or translating neuroscience and the heart–mind connection into everyday leadership, he makes complex ideas feel personal, grounded, and actionable.”

— Shari Moore, RN, BSN, Vice President, Risk Solutions, PLICO

“As a healthcare executive and practicing orthopedic spine surgeon, I’ve seen firsthand the toll burnout takes on leaders and teams. Dr. Fisher’s work is both timely and essential. After working with him directly, I can say the impact is not fleeting. It meaningfully reshapes how leaders understand stress, resilience, and their responsibility to the people they lead.”

— Leo Spector, MD, MBA, CEO, OrthoCarolina

“This is the second year we’ve invited Dr. Fisher to speak, and his message around Just One Heart continues to resonate. The work is both inspiring and thought-provoking, offering perspectives that stay with leaders well beyond the event itself. We’ve already decided to bring him back again.”
